Tomographic velocity analysis of PP- and PS-waves for VTI media: Field-data application

چکیده

Mode-converted PS-waves can provide valuable information for anisotropic parameter estimation that cannot be obtained from compressional waves alone. In a previous paper, we developed an efficient tomographic methodology for 2D joint velocity analysis of PP and PS data from VTI (transversely isotropic with a vertical symmetry axis) media. The algorithm is designed to flatten image gathers of PP-waves as well as of pure SS reflections computed using the PP+PS=SS method. An important additional constraint is provided by codepthing of the migrated PP and SS sections. The model is divided into square cells, and the parameters VP0, VS0, ε , and δ are defined at each grid point. Here, this methodology is applied to multicomponent data recorded on a 2D line from an OBS (ocean bottom seismic) survey acquired at Volve field in the North Sea. Although the parameter-updating procedure did not include any borehole information, the VTI model obtained by joint tomography of the recorded PP-waves and constructed SS-waves produced generally well-focused PP and PS depth images. The depth consistency between the migrated PP and PS sections also corroborates the accuracy of the velocityanalysis algorithm.

Full-waveform inversion in a VTI elastic Earth: a parameterization and crosstalk study

Five parameters are needed to describe VTI anisotropy in 2-D elastic media. With conventional streamer data and considering that we have a kinematically accurate NMO velocity (vnmo) and η (or horizontal velocity, vh) obtained from tomographic methods, we first show that a parameterization given by vh, η and allows us to focus the inversion to update vh (for traveltime and amplitude fitting) and...

Velocity Modeling in a Vertical Transversely Isotropic Medium Using Zelt Method

In the present paper, the Zelt algorithm has been extended for ray tracing through an anisotropic model. In anisotropic media, the direction of the propagated energy generally differs from that of the plane-wave propagation. This makes velocity values to be varied in different directions. Therefore, velocity modeling in such media is completely different from that in an isotropic media. The vel...

Full-waveform inversion in an anisotropic elastic Earth - Can we isolate the role of density and shear wave velocity?

Five parameters are needed to describe VTI anisotropy in 2-D elastic media. With conventional streamer data, an optimal parameterization for full-waveform inversion (FWI) consists in using the horizontal velocity vh, the anellipicity parameter η, and the parameter that relates the horizontal-to-vertical velocity, ε. This parameterization, derived with a pseudo-acoustic formulation of the wave e...

Closed-form expressions for map time-migration in VTI media and the applicability of map depth-migration in the presence of caustics

Provided the velocity of the medium is known and the the medium does not allow different reflectors to have identical surface seismic measurements that persist under small perturbations of the medium, map migration achieves a one-to-one mapping from surface seismic data to the subsurface seismic image by using the slopes in addition to the location (and time) of the events in the data. In this ...

Explicit expressions for prestack map time migration in isotropic and VTI media and the applicability of map depth migration in heterogeneous anisotropic media

We present 3D prestack map time migration in closed form for qP-, qSV-, and mode-converted waves in homogeneous transversely isotropic media with a vertical symmetry axis (VTI). As far as prestack time demigration is concerned, we present closed-form expressions for mapping in homogeneous isotropic media, while for homogeneous VTI media we present a system of four nonlinear equations with four ...
